Sleep Scoring Bootcamp
Analysis of adult sleep studies

This two-day course is an intensive introduction to the analysis of adult sleep studies and is designed for sleep professionals who wish to learn or consolidate sleep study analysis. This course is most suited for both sleep technologists/scientists/physiologists and advanced trainees or physicians who report sleep studies. Those doing research involving sleep monitoring also benefit, as do those working with equipment which involves monitoring of sleep or breathing during sleep. Sleep professionals who have been working in the field for some time are also welcome to update their knowledge.

Our bootcamp can be undertaken as a standalone course or as a follow up to the Sleep Medicine - Fundamentals short course.

This course has been granted 14 Continuing Education Credits (CEC's) by the Australian and New Zealand Sleep Science Association (ANZSSA) which can be used by those with the RPSGT qualification.

Topics

  • Sleep staging and arousal scoring: Apply AASM criteria to allocate sleep stages and identify arousals
  • Respiratory event scoring: Apply AASM criteria to identify respiratory events
  • Advanced scoring: Identification of less common sleep disorders and how to deal with difficult studies
  • Software settings influence on analysis: Learn how software settings can affect analysis and how to adjust for these.

Learning outcomes

  • Successfully apply current sleep scoring guidelines to real studies
  • Understand the limitations and challenges involved in applying these guidelines
  • Become familiar with less commonly seen features of sleep studies, both physiological and artefactual.

Course delivery method

The course will include lectures and extensive practical sessions to familiarise attendees with the current AASM scoring guidelines and the application of these. All tutors are familiar with several sleep recording systems. The software used in this course is G3 Sleepware.
